Klein Civil Rights Partners with ACLU for Voter Outreach on Civil Rights Issues
Klein Civil Rights, a top New York City Civil Rights law firm, teamed up with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) this election season to reach out to voters on important civil rights issues on Election Day ballots. This campaign illustrates the Firm’s commitment to civil rights for all Americans.
The firm, Brett H. Klein, Esq., PLLC, serves the New York Metro area, Long Island and upstate New York, but its founder Brett Klein is passionate about protecting and defending civil rights universally.
“Civil rights issues were at the forefront of many elections around the country,” said Mr. Klein. “We wanted to remind as many voters as we could reach that civil rights are the foundation of our democracy and that every vote matters.”
Firm employees called Florida voters on behalf of Second Chances Florida, in support of that state’s Voting Rights Restoration for Felons Initiative. 1.4 million people in Florida are permanently excluded from voting because of a prior felony conviction. The Amendment, which passed, will restore the right to vote for people with prior felony convictions, except those convicted of murder or a felony sexual offense, upon completion of their sentences.
The Firm also called voters in Kansas, where the outcome of a crowded gubernatorial race had the potential to drastically impact civil rights statewide. Without endorsing any one candidate, calls were made to inform voters where each of the three front-runners stood on key issues such as voting rights and immigration. Democrat Laura Kelly won the election.
Calls were made straight through election day to get voters to the polls in Oregon to defend their Sanctuary State status. Oregon Measure 105 was successfully voted down, demonstrating peoples’ interest in protecting immigrants’ rights and their objection to racial profiling.
Kymberley Walcott, a paralegal at Klein Civil Rights, called voters around the country as part of the ACLU’s People Power team for the 2018 midterm elections.
